AIDS Life Emergency Fund Helps Record Number of Clients for 2011.
Or County funding. It is solely dependent on the generous contributions of individuals to help those in desperate need. Clients are referred to the Foundation by Case Managers at the many agencies that we fund with AIDS Walk grants. This collaboration ensures that funds remain an entrustment of the Foundation and our contributors. Many of the clients have had their stories told or followed on video. You can see the results on our YouTube Channel of what a little assistance means to those who are in need. We warn you that watching some of these video will require a box of tissues to watch. But we believe that you will agree with us, that this program is a vital program to many clients. We believe a client cannot maintain their compliance with the HIV Medicines if they are depressed because they have no lights, no gas, no food or no basic life necessities. Compliance to the medicine regimen is
not an option. Adherence ensures a longer life and reduced risk of spreading HIV. While the program is beauracracy free, abuse and fraud are prevented by working with a Case Manager referral at a collaborating agency. Case managers and the client complete the application for the request. The process includes a self-analysis to determine how the client had the set-back and a process to ensure that it remains a one-time request. The funds do have a per-incident cap and a lifetime cap. The AIDS Life Emergency Fund has run dry many times during this last year and some clients were turned away or their cases were delayed. We try to compassionately help those desperate to turn to the fund. But these funds are limited to the amount of contributions we receive to assist the many clients in need. You can help by clicking on the donate button at the top of this page. Watch the videos below and new ones as we post them.
“The lifetime cost of someone living with HIV/AIDS is $379,668.
The cost of prevention...pennies on the dollar. Pay now or pay later.”
The AIDS Life Emergency Fund saves lives...literally. Lisa Taylor-Harris is a vibrant,
loving mother and grandmother living in a small apartment in South Central Los Angeles.
A former executive secretary of the NAACP, she suffered a setback with Stage 4 Breast
Cancer. Lisa also has AIDS.
This once vibrant and energetic woman was sleeping on the cold tile floor, while
going through chemotherapy. Depressed and not well spirited having watched both
her mother and sister also die of the exact same breast cancer, she lost the energy
to fight both AIDS and stage 4 breast cancer in her dingy, dark and cramped room.
The AIDS Life Emergency Fund along with the volunteers of Graytly Inspired did a
room make-over. The fund purchased a new bed so that Lisa didn’t have to lift her
frail chemo-weak body off the floor. She could simply drop her feet from the bed
and stand. Watch this warm, inspiring and transformational video of Lisa’s Bed.
