Agencies We Fund
The Beneficiary Committee consists of 12
voluntary community citizens, leaders and corporate professionals
who review the applications of the RFP (Request for
Proposals) for the 2006 year.
The committee volunteers pour over
hundreds of pages and documents from the agencies to
review the funding proposals. In addition, the
committee conducts site visits of the agencies and
audits for any funding received the previous year.
Recommended agencies to be funded are sent to the Board
of Directors for approval by May. Historically,
AIDS Walk has rarely ever turned away an agency that
needed the funding. It is our mission that we work
to raise the funds that these agencies so desperately
need.
How we score these agencies:
Agencies are scored on a 100
basis point system. Each of the agencies are
scored on their own merits and are not compared to other
agencies. The committee primarily reviews the RFPs
prior to the Walk and recommends the programs to be
funded to the Board. The committee looks at the
effectiveness of the proposed program, ability of the
agency to deliver the program, sources of additional
funds for the proposed program, the scope of the
program, measurability and accountability processes for
the program, prior audited financial statements of funds
used from previous year's AIDS Walk funds, ability of
the agency to help raise funds and the active
participation plans for AIDS Walk.
Agencies are also
additionally required to raise a minimum of one-third of
their funding request. This is a partnership
program and requires the entire community to help raise
funds for all agencies serving the HIV/AIDS community.
AIDS Walk Long Beach is the only major Southern
California AIDS Walk that does not "self-fund" and helps
to fund more than the amount raised by the beneficiary
agency. Because AIDS Walk Long Beach funds more
than what the agency raises, we require the agencies to
raise a minimum of one-third of their requests to
receive funding.
